I know it’s been a couple of months
Since I’ve prepared a meal for us
I know it’s been several weeks since I’ve dusted the blinds
I know it’s been over a year
That you asked me to shave my beard
And I stay up really late every night trying hard to unwind
It seems that I don’t try very hard
To keep a trimmed and tidy yard
Have you noticed lately I have other things on my mind
I see the dishes in the sink
And I realize the garbage stinks
I’m quite aware how badly my shoes need a shine
It’s just my nine to five
I’m under fire
On the front line
Defending the empire
Honey I’m home, and how was your day
You say you had a pile of bills to pay
I try to tell you I appreciate all that you do
And look at the messes they’ve made
These kids are trying to drive you insane
I try again but it’s hard to compare the me with the you
Smiles, laughs, and finally to bed
A sympathetic nod of the head
I think we’re both just trying our best to do what we do
I know she doesn’t understand
She’s my woman, and I’m her man
I try my best to keep us intact, it’s all I can do
It’s just our nine to five
We’re under fire
On the front line
Defending the empire
